Downeast Cider
Grade: 87 B
Downeast’s Cranberry has a subtle sweet nose and actually smells quite similar to their Pear cider. It is really sharp on the tongue but later softens out. The second phase is full of tartness that really builds along with a cranberry flavor that is not noticeable at the beginning but eventually becomes pretty intense and will have you sucking your tongue for sure! There is not doubt it has a fleshy fruity taste, not uncommon to other unfiltered Downeast Ciders. The mouthfeel is supple. The fruit comes and goes pretty quick leaving you with a long tart finish with plenty of acidic sharpness. It is really good, but for me it would only be for a special occasion or if I were in a tart mood, but probably not an everyday drinker.
Cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving, a staple. Is fresh or canned better? Up for debate. Cranberry cider? Not up for debate.
