Raging Cider and Mead Co.
Grade: 85 B
This perry has a nice pale gold color. The nose is pretty pungent at first but if you aerate it, it calms down to a beautiful and rich buttery smell. This is a pretty potent perry and not for the sweet pear cider chuggers of the world. You get a healthy rush of acidity in the second phase which lingers and turns into a nice little burn in the back of the throat. It definitely has sidra-esque qualities, and I’d say the more you can let this breath the better. Though the acidity makes this a more robust drink, and it is quite sharp, there is still a softness detected in the first phase and some lighter, softer, fruit notes in the finish that peek out from under the acidity. It definitely delivers on being “not your normal perry” and I am bummed to say the other unique perry I had to pair it with spoilt pretty bad and it wasn’t right to put them head-to-head. But, if you like a rougher wild farmhouse cider but with a hint of delicacy afforded by the pears, this is the robust perry you are after.
Off-dry perry from a single-source orchard we manage in Julian, Ca for the Kumeyaay Land Conservancy Council. It pours an amber gold & tastes of pear up front that gives way to bright acidity, hints of berries, then finishes with lingering apple notes & light tannins. Pear varieties: (60%) Lincoln pears, (40%) Fourteen different Wild pears
