Hale & True Cider Co.
Grade: 87.5 B+
Oh that’s a nice fresh breeze! Passionfruit dominates the nose of Hale and True’s POGA, but its mix with orange gives a nice citrus feel with a little guava smoothing out the edges. It is a fairly brilliant straw, bordering pale straw, color. Mmm, this is a very chill cider. It is not a big bold flavor; it won’t bowl you over like some tropical ciders. It still has the essence of a dry cider which allows for those tropical flavors to be highlighted in the finish. It has a soft citrusy bite on the tongue but is lighter in body than other tropical ciders. I get mostly passionfruit and orange flavors that really stick around on the tongue for a while, retaining the tongue tingles through to the finish. It did leave me wanting for a little more guava though. These are deceptively easy to drink. It is not a loud tropical cider, but it reminds me more of a calm and relaxing beach vacation with book in hand and just enough breeze to make the hammock sway slightly. A dry, mature, take on a tropical cider.
POGA is a loving tribute to the Hawaiian juice drink POG, made with passion fruit, fresh squeezed orange, and guava.
